How Celebrities have influenced the Beauty Industry

Everyone has heard of the influence Gwyneth Paltrow and Goop has had on the beauty industry. But did you know just how many others are getting in on the act?

Celebrities endorse products all the time, but only a few ever mean what they say. The purpose of this article is to sort out the meaningful from the just plain money-making offerings from those in the public eye.

You must have been living under a rock if you didn’t know Rihanna has her own line in beauty and cosmetics. This multi-million dollar line has sold well, but is it any good?

Rihanna – Fenty Beauty

According to the website, Rihanna saw a void in the market for skincare that covered all nationalities and suited all skin types. Tackling this problem is a big ask for anyone, let alone a music, fashion and beauty icon. So what’s going on behind the scenes?

We looked into this for you, and what seemed to be just hype and marketing is a genuine beauty company owned by Rihanna, launched in 2017 with the help of the best pharmaceutical brains in the business, this brand is all it’s cracked up to be.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filter Hydrating Longwear Foundation (£24.99)

This product is a best-seller, and quite rightly so; with 50 shades of fantastic foundation. A brilliant formula which smoothes out skin texture. Gives full-coverage, but it is so lightweight you can wear it all day. Full of hydrating ingredients: so easy to use, it blends right into your skin. The fact is it’s a great product.

The only downside is it’s so good some shades always sell out as soon as they come back in stock.

Glass Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer (£34.99)

Another sell-out product from Fenty Beauty, this lip gloss is excellent. It is hydrating and stays on all day. We particularly like the packaging, making it a fabulous gift for any discerning beauty aficionado.

Charlotte Tilbury

Famous British makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury launched her brand in 2012 on the back of her prestigious career, working throughout the 1990s creating makeup looks and supporting campaigns that ran in Vogue, Vanity Fair and Love Magazine.

Charlotte is an industry insider and created the makeup and beauty range because she felt the quality of makeup required for the catwalk, and under the in-depth scrutiny of cameras and hot studio lights, simply was not available.

The formula has been moderated for everyday wear, but the emphasis remains on quality products that stay in place.

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Instant Eye Palette(£89.99)

This eye palette is stunning. The first thing you noticed is the beautiful case, then how gorgeous the eye shadow colours are. The shades are placed in four groups on the palette, day, desk, date and dream; making it easy to choose the right colour.

Very easy to use, and so highly pigmented with colours from champagne to pink berry, with no fallout. Fall out is when you get specks of makeup that fall on your cheek—none of that with this palette.

Charlotte also does a great foundation, but there aren’t as many shades to choose from as the Fenty Beauty foundation range.

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation (£34.99)

It’s the best foundation if you need it to stay in place for an event, a wedding, for instance, or a function where you know your makeup needs to be flawless.

What this foundation has that’s different to Fenty Beauty Pro Filter Hydrating Longwear Foundation are lots of high pigment light reflectors. It’s literally the makeup of makeup artists.

Kylie Jenner – Kylie Cosmetics

The queen of the eyebrow, Kylie Jenner, started the craze for big lips and, along with that, the makeup range to support the look. Launched in 2018, following in the footsteps of Rhianna and Kim Khardasian, what started life with just a few hyped products is now a multi-million dollar business.

The only product we like in this range is Kylie Jenner Lip Kit in the shade Exposed: only available via the US. Still, shipping is either free or reasonable, and this is the reason we can’t recommend anything else in this line.

For Kylie, she might be better off concentrating on her fashion range.

Iman Cosmetics

Iman is the wife of David Bowie and was a famous model in the 1980s and 1990s. The first celebrity to create a makeup range, Iman led: and others followed. Iman’s brand is established and, in this cut-throat business, that’s a recommendation in itself.

Designed precisely to match the skin of black and Asian women around the world, Iman remains a leader in this notoriously underdeveloped market. We love Iman Luxury Pressed Powder. The entire range is gorgeous: highly pigmented with longevity and opulence.

Great for slightly oily skin and also suitable as a stay-in-place holiday product as it reacts well to heat and humidity, you can wear it alone or give your make up a finishing touch. Nice one Iman!

Iman Luxury Moisturising Lipstick in Opal (£9.99)

Beautiful colour and texture; this long-stay lipstick is one of the best, and it’s such great value. Again the only problem is that it’s so popular it sells out so fast.

So, all in all, our choice of celebrity makeup and beauty ranges are worth the money, as any beauty insider will tell you. With new endorsements arriving on the scene all the time, if the products are substandard, the brand won’t survive no matter how famous the celebrity.
